چکیده
Abstract This paper presents a control algorithm for ensuring the stable operation of 6 kW Hall thruster. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency is developing “wide-range” power processing unit (PPU) to thruster system, candidate all-electric satellites. PPU provides discharge oscillation, power, and current control. increments in loop are fixed, so digital controller does not need calculate them, algorithm’s computational complexity minimal. Results integration tests on breadboard model showed that three functions run correctly. total controlled was adjusted range 3.45–3.55 under constant with target 3.5 kW. Oscillations ± 0.05 around acceptable. 70% peaks acquired 100 ms exceeded limit 1.5A. Discharge oscillation varied coil magnetic field reduced them 0%. successfully current, reducing from 13.7 A 13 A. propulsion efficiency increased 59% 60.5%.

Initial Cavity Ring-Down Density Measurement on a 6-kW Hall Thruster
We present the initial results from a cavity ring-down sensor for measuring the density of sputtered boron atoms originating from the discharge channel of a 6-kW Hall thruster. The sensor traps 250 nm light in a high-finesse cavity to greatly increase its sensitivity to boron atoms. Measurements were obtained with the thruster operating at seven conditions spanning discharge voltages from 150 t...
متن کاملLaser-Induced Fluorescence of Singly-Charged Xenon inside a 6-kW Hall Thruster
We present laser-induced fluorescence velocimetry measurements of the 5d[4]7/2 → 6p[3]5/2 transition for singly-charged xenon (Xe II) at 834.953 nm (vacuum) inside and in the near-field plume of a 6-kW Hall thruster. The thruster has a nominal operating discharge voltage of 300 V and a nominal anode mass flow rate of 20 mg/s. Axial velocity profiles are obtained along the centerline of the disc...
متن کاملPlasma Potential Measurements in the Discharge Channel of a 6-kW Hall Thruster
In an effort to understand the role of neutral flow dynamics in the operation of Hall thrusters, a floating emissive probe was used to measure the plasma potential, electric field, and electron temperature in the discharge channel of a 6-kW Hall thruster operating at 300 V and anode flow rates of 10, 20, and 30 mg/s. To isolate the effect of propellant flow rate, the cathode flow fraction and m...

Axial velocity profiles were obtained at six locations axially along the channel centerline and nine locations radially across the thruster channel at the exit plane. Discharge voltage was ma...
متن کاملNear-field laser-induced fluorescence velocimetry of neutral xenon in a 6-kW Hall thruster plume
We present laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) measurements of neutral xenon (6s [3/2]2) in the near-field plume of a 6-kW Hall thruster. The 823.163 nm (air) beam from a TUI Optics TA-100/830 tapered-amplifier diode laser is focused along an axial beamline onto a submillimeter interrogation volume, from which we collect resonant LIF. Polarization control via a rotating half-wave plate keeps the i...
